Right To Bear Arms
The right to bear arms is and should be constitutionally protected, but that right should not be without limits:
- We must close loopholes in our laws that allow individuals who have been denied a Pennsylvania gun permit to obtain one via mail from another state with lest strict laws, and to then purchase a gun in Pennsylvania with that out-of-state permit.
- Reasonable background checks make sense and should be required, including the purchase of weapons at gun shows where such requirements currently do not apply.
- People who lose weapons or have them stolen must be required to report the loss or theft to authorities.
- Weapons should be required to be secured when minors might otherwise be able to gain access to them.
- Individuals convicted of violent crimes or who have been otherwise determined to pose a danger to the public should not be permitted to possess firearms.
- Arsenals should generally be prohibited.
- Possession of assault weapons should be restricted or prohibited.
- The right to bear arms must be balanced by the right of the public to be protected from their misuse.
